Christmas countdown : VegNog

This was my first time trying Vegan “egg” Nog and I must say I am impressed. It does require some patience, but it is well worth the wait. All good for you ingredients, with a secret ingredient of turmeric included.

Ingredients

1  cup raw cashews soaked overnight

6 medjool dates pitted and soaked overnight

2 Tbsp coconut cream

1 tsp vanilla essence

1/8 tsp turmeric powder

1 Tbsp cinnamon powder (plus a stick for garnish optional)

1/2 tsp nutmeg powder (plus fresh grated for garnish optional)

4 Tbsp liqueur (optional)

Directions

  1. Discard the water from the cashews and rinse.
  2. Add cashews, dates with water, coconut cream, vanilla essence, turmeric, cinnamon, nutmeg to your Vitamix and blend thoroughly.
  3. Add liqueur (optional) it does give it a great flavor.
  4. Pour blended mix in a glass jar and place in refrigerator overnight. (this is where added patience is needed.
  5. Next day pour yourself a delicious cup, garnish with cinnamon stick and topped with freshly grated nutmeg.

Green Kale Pro

Adding proteins to my smoothies makes them very filling. While I opt for fresh produce, I opted for organic frozen kale because there was no organic fresh kale available. However, either would work in this recipe. Do keep in mind if you are using fresh fruits and kale you would need to add less water. This is so creamy.

The main ingredient in this smoothie Kale.

Benefits:

  • An excellent source of beta-carotene and vitamin C
  • A good source of folate, calcium, iron, and potassium
  • Contains bioflavonoids and other substances that protect against cancer.

Green Kale Pro

Ingredients

    • 3 cups frozen kale
    • 1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks
    • 1 cup plain kefir
    • 1 scoop protein powder
    • 2 Tbsp pomegranate powder
    • 3 Tbsp hemp seeds
    • 2 Tbsp flax seeds
    • 1 Tbsp chia seeds

Directions

  • Add all ingredients in a blender along with 2 cups cold water and blend.
  • Pour into a glass and enjoy!

Chilled Golden Milk

This is your non-traditional golden milk

Here is a delicious drink, that is heart-healthy and delicious. Packed with good foods this drink provides lots of anti-inflammatory ingredients. This drink is vegan and vegetarian-friendly, very low in sugar and serves one.

Tumeric is an anti-inflammatory nutritional. Curcumin is found in turmeric. Tumeric belongs in the ginger family and shares some of its anti-inflammatory properties with that spice as well. Like ginger:

  • Tumeric lowers the level of molecules that trigger inflammation.
  • Tumeric lowers levels of nitric oxide and associated with overall balance of immune system

This drink can be done with or without the protein powder, but I figure why not to add a complete meal, but if you don;t have it sure you can omit it and it will still taste great. You can use fresh or ground turmeric powder.

Sassy Water – Part 1

Ever thought of drinking water and getting great benefits while doing so? Water is nutritious on its own, don’t get me wrong but adding extra benefits is a plus. I give this one an A +.

I will be tryin several flavored water recipes which I call sassy water because the taste is sassy, and that’s in a good way. Here is my first sassy water. I  try to buy all organic items from the dirty dozen list, in addition, I clean all my fruits and vegetables by scrubbing them, then soaking in apple cider vinegar for about 20-30 minutes.

Ingredients

12  mint leaves

1/2 large cucumbers slices

1 apple cored and cubed

1/4 lemon cubed

1/4 lime cubed

1/2 medium ginger (grated)

1 cinnamon stick

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a large bottle and fill with water. You can continue refilling as the day go buy. You will want to toss it out about day three to five. You will know by taste. Enjoy …

Maca Milkshake

Have you heard about maca? Maca is a root. To love the flavor of this drink you will need to love a nutty flavor.

Nutrients: Amino acids, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, vitamins B1, B2, B12, C, and E.

Maca increases energy and supports the immune system. Good for anemia, chronic fatigue syndrome, impotence, fertility, menopausal symptoms and menstrual problems.

So having maca powder in my pantry I decided to make a milkshake with it!

Ingredients

1 cup organic coconut milk

4 cups filtered water

1 cup ice cubes

1/2 cup dates, pitted

2 Tbsp maca powder

2 Tbsp nut butter (raw almond, peanut, sunflower)

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1 1/2 tsp ground vanilla powder

1 cinnamon stick, reserved for garnish.

Directions

  1. Add liquids to a high-speed blender.
  2. Add ice cubes and dates and followed by the final four ingredients.
  3. Blend at high speed for another 30 seconds.
  4. Pour into four glasses and garnish with cinnamon sticks.
